Reverend Eric Hurst

Reverend Eric Hurst was born to Mr. Charles Hurst and Mrs. Dorethea Shepherd Hurst on October 27. He, along with his brother, Brian Ashley Hurst, grew up in the Metro Atlanta area and attended schools in DeKalb County. He accepted Christ at the tender age of four (4) at The Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Hubert Floyd Shepherd, who was also his grandfather.

He graduated from Rainbow Elementary and Southwest Dekalb High Schools. Upon the completion of his secondary education, he entered into the United States Navy. After serving his country with honor, he was honorably discharged from the navy and entered Georgia State University. He later transferred to Oglethorpe University as a business major. During his senior year, he accepted the call to the ministry, preached his trial sermon, and was licensed as a Baptist Minister. Through the grace of God, he graduated from Oglethorpe University with honors receiving his Bachelor's of Business Administration.

Rev. Hurst worked in the field of Banking and Finance for several years before being led to into the field of education. He found his purpose and began the journey to unite his call in to the ministry with his profession as an educator, discovering that they were intertwined because both involved serving others while serving God. Pastor Hurst has been recognized for his commitment to his students and their success both formally and informally.

Rev. Hurst studied at the Interdenominational Theological Center, where he earned a Master's of Divinity Degree in Biblical Studies, from Morehouse School of Religion.

As a lifelong member of Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church, where the Reverend E. Dewey Smith, Jr. is the pastor, Pastor Hurst served in and led many ministries. As a child and teenager, he actively participated in the Children's and Youth choirs, Sunday school, Baptist Boys Camp Council, Athletics, and Youth ministries. After being licensed and ordained (2001) as a minister of the gospel, Pastor Hurst held various leadership roles including, Assistant to the Pastor, Assistant to the Director of Christian Education, Teachers' Training Instructor, Sunday School Teacher, New Members' Ministry Teacher, Family and Marriage Counselor, and Pastor of Congregational Care where he served over 600 families.

Rev. Hurst was called and installed as pastor of the Browns Hill Baptist Church in Monroe, Georgia in December 2006. After serving faithfully at Browns Hills, Pastor Hurst was elevated in February 2013, to be the 7th Pastor of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. In his short time at Mount Moriah, he has made an immediate impact for the glory of God with the help of great people that he has the privilege and pleasure of serving. Pastor Hurst is a highly sought after preacher and teacher. Pastor Hurst's most cherished role is that of father to his beautiful daughter, Miss Summer Ivory Hurst, whose love is always a constant source of inspiration. Pastor Hurst's mission and mantra are to serve this present age, his calling to fulfill, by letting his light shine before the world, that they may see his good works and glorify his Father, which is in heaven.
